Defending Champion Cybrian Kotut to face strong field in Hamburg - Cybrian Kotut, the defending champion and course record holder, will return to the Haspa Marathon Hamburg on 23rd April. A year ago the Kenyan took the Hamburg title with 2:04:47 and smashed the course record set by superstar Eliud Kipchoge back in 2013.

Abdisa Tola won the Dubai Marathon with a world leading time of 2:05:42 running his debut at the distance. The 22 year-old Ethiopian, who is the brother of marathon world champion Tamirat Tola, pulled away with around 2k to go after briefly going off course at 39k and then re-taking the lead. Fellow-Ethiopians Deresa Geleta and Haymanot Alew Engdayehu took second and third with 2:05:51 and 2:05:57 respectively.

While there will be a group of Africans who aim to break the long standing 2:05:41 course record for a number of other runners the qualifying time for the World Championships this summer in Budapest is a major goal.

Dubai (UNITED ARAB EMIRATES): Ethiopian elites dominate the entry list in the women’s competition for the 2023 Dubai Marathon with Ruti Aga and compatriots Gutemi Shone and Gelete Burka all targeting the biggest Marathon in the Middle East on February 12.
