The fall is a time for cross country and cooler weather. Numerous high school and college runners are running cross country and getting ready for their Championships next month. If you have never watched a cross-country meet, take a few minutes to enjoy one in your area this fall.
Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon Announces New Course for 2008
(September 5, 2008 From Running USA wire) COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the first time in nine years, the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon will feature a new and improved course for its 29th edition on Sunday, October 19.
Labor Day

Wineberg Wins Gold in 4 x 400 Meter Relay
Former University of Cincinnati and Walnut Hills High School runner Mary Wineberg clocked 51.0 for her opening leg, positioning the U.S. just behind Russia, along with Jamaica and Great Britain. The women’s 4 x 400 meter team went on to run the fastest time in fifteen years with their 3:18.54 to win.
Fountain awarded silver medal in heptathlon
Ohio’s Hyleas Fountain was awarded the silver medal in the women's heptathlon, in a ceremony held in the Olympic Village on August 23rd. USOC Chief of Sport Performance Steve Roush made the presentation to Fountain, who was moved up from third to second when original silver medalist Lyudmila Blonska tested positive for the substance methyltestosterone, her second doping offense.
Payne wins Silver, US sweeps 400 meters
Former University of Cincinnati and Wyoming High School athlete David Payne wins the Silver in the 110 meter hurdles. With world record holder Dayron Robles of Cuba heavily favored, many predicted the race for second and third would be most compelling. Americans came away with both spots.
Bolt breaks MJs WR; Team USA adds two silver, one bronze
(USATF Release) BEIJING - Jamaican phenom Usain Bolt stole the show once again, and Team USA brought its medal tally to 14 thanks to the men's 200m and women's 400 hurdles, Wednesday night at the "Bird's Nest" National Stadium.

Hyleas Fountain (Kettering, Ohio) became the only American woman other than Jackie Joyner-Kersee ever to win an Olympic medal in the heptathlon, coming away with a bronze-medal performance of 6,619 points.
Ohio Athletes Competing in the Olympics.....
(by Matt McGowan)Thirty-two athletes competing in thirteen different events in the 2008 Olympics have strong ties to Ohio. Many were born in Ohio or went to college here or now live in and train in Ohio. A total of 45 Ohio Olympians will represent 11 countries. There are 17 current or former Ohio State athletes competing for seven countries.

From 1928 until 1972, the longest event that women ran internationally was the 800 meters. Women were thought to be too frail to run over 800 meters and the Olympics in 1928 were the last time the 800 was run until 1960!

Last month saw a lot of outstanding competition in track and field as well as road racing.
The 101st boys and 34th girls Ohio High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships provided another outstanding weekend of competition.
Take part in the August 16th Crew 5K and go to the Columbus Crew vs. FC Dallas game that night Free.
The Crew 5K Run/Walk around the grounds of the Crew Stadium, Ohio State Fairgrounds and finishes at the midfield of Crew Stadium. All registrants receive: Free tech shirt and goody bag and a Free ticket to see the Crew take on FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m.;
Top Ohio athletes at the Trials
(By Matt McGowan) A number of Ohio athletes had outstanding performances at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field - Team Trials.
Hyleas Fountain who is from Pennsylvania and now living and training in the Dayton area won five of the seven events in the hepthalon to win with 6,667 points. Fountain also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4th 21 feet 11.75 inches.

Watterson/Whetstone Alumni 5km Cross Country Run
(by Matt McGowan) The overall winner in the third annual Watterson/Whetstone Alumni Cross Country and Track 5km was Eddie Erion (18:13), a 2008 graduate of Whetstone, who was All-City League as a senior in cross country while also competing on the track team.

Kiptoo, Alyanak Win Hyde Park Blast 4 Mile
(Running USA wire / by Chad Sims) CINCINNATI, Ohio - (June 28, 2008) - More than 4,000 participants came together in the fight against cancer as they took part in the 7th Hyde Park Blast presented by Toyota.
USA Junior Track & Field Championships
(Columbus, OH, June 20-22, 2008) The final day of the USA Junior Track & Field Championships saw a number of outstanding performances. Ohio’s Jessica Beard won her third 400 meters (52.23) USA Junior Track & Field Championship.
