Cross Country
The fall is a time for cross country and cooler weather. Numerous high school and college runners are running cross country and getting ready for their Championships next month. If you have never watched a cross-country meet, take a few minutes to enjoy one in your area this fall. Mark your calendar for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on November 1st at Scioto Downs. There are three girls and three boys races with the Boys Division III starting at 11am and the Girls Division I being the final race of the day at 2:50 pm. Perhaps you can lace up your shoes and get involved in cross-country and run the open race at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships on Friday October 10th. Ohio Wesleyan University will host the All-Ohio in Delaware and if you don't want to run yourself, be sure to be there by 2pm to watch teams from over forty-five Ohio colleges and universities race.

No Cross Country Coverage on The Big Ten Network??
The battle between Time Warner and the Big Ten Network seems to be over. For more than a year Ohio Time Warner subscribers have had to hear the Big Ten Network tell us to contact our cable provide to request the Big Ten Network. I even received an email from the Big Ten Network suggesting I switch my cable provider. Also, last month The Ohio State University Athletic Director sent out a letter to alumni and season football ticket holders to suggest they switch their cable provider if they had Time Warner.
Since my cable provider now has the Big Ten Network the one thing that bothers me is when I go to the Big Ten Network web site and look at the sports they cover; cross country is not one of the sixteen sports they list. Also, it looks like they do not plan to cover the Men and Women Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Ann Arbor this fall. I have had numerous ads from the Big Ten Network over the year asking me to contact Time Warner and say I want the Big Ten Network. Well, I would like the runners of Ohio and the Midwest to contact the Big Ten Network office and ask why they are not covering cross country.
Last year many runners contacted the Big Ten Network and they did cover the Big Ten Cross Country Championships held in Columbus. Here are some of my correspondents with The Big Ten Network and some facts on the popularity of cross country at the high school and college level. –
