Hopefully, everyone’s life is back to normal after the wind damage a few weeks ago.  I lost a large tree and did not have electricity for four days.  Cooler weather and the fall colors will make running this month more enjoyable. Good luck with your training and racing.

Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia shattered his own marathon record in the real-Berlin Marathon on September 28, running 2:03:59, to become the first man in history under 2.04 for the distance.  His time is 4:43.69 per mile.  It is Gebrselassie’s 26th  World record, and improves by almost half a minute the world record of 2.04.26 that he set in Berlin one year ago.  Check out the RUNOHIO National page for more on this outstanding run - http://www.runohio.com/home_national

The Air Force Marathon - http://www.runohio.com/read_new/air-force-marathon and the Road Runners Akron Marathon - http://www.runohio.com/read_new/road-runners-akron-marathon were recently held.  The October 19th Columbus Marathon has added prize money - http://www.runohio.com/read_new/nationwide-better-health-columbus-marathon-ups-stakes-prize-money - to the new course this year –  http://www.runohio.com/read_new/nationwide-better-health-columbus-marathon-announces-new-course-2008

Boulder, Colorado’s Sara Slattery (25:54) nipped former Willoughby South High School and University of Michigan standout Katie McGregor (25:56) for overall honors and $7,500 in the USATF Women’s 8km Championships held in Akron on September 27th.  Providence’s Amy Rudolph (26:01) finished third while Providence Molly Huddle (26:06) placed fourth.  Bellbrook’s Ann Alyanak (26:59) led the Ohio women across the finish line with her thirteenth place finish. Numerous high school and college runners are running cross country and getting ready for their Championships. If you have never watched a cross-country meet, take a few minutes to enjoy one in your area this fall. Mark your calendar for the Ohio High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on November 1st at Scioto Downs. There are three girls and three boys races with the Boys Division III starting at 11am and the Girls Division I being the final race of the day at 2:50 pm. Perhaps you can lace up your shoes and get involved in cross-country and run the open race at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships on Friday October 10th. Ohio Wesleyan University will host the All-Ohio in Delaware and if you don't want to run yourself, be sure to be there by 2pm to watch teams from over forty Ohio colleges and universities race.

I will be helping my bother Jeff and mom with the 21st annual Circleville Classic 5 Mile run on October 18th. The race starts and finishes at Circleville High School and will be held the Saturday of this year's 102nd Circleville Pumpkin Show, which is held in downtown Circleville, one mile from the school.  More info - http://www.runohio.com/node/766

Registration for the ninth annual Arnold 5K Pump and Run will start November 1st with a limit of 750 athletes. Last year the limit of 700 athletes was reached in fourteen days. There will also be a traditional 5km, a run only – Arnold 5K. Both events will be held Sunday March 8th during the 21st annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus.  Check back later this month for more info - http://www.runohio.com
