Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd

(Matt McGowan, RUNOHIO) Over its 23-year history, The Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic has seen numerous outstanding athletes and performances. The world record performance of Ohio State's Butch Reynolds in the 400 meters at the old Ohio Stadium was still the talk among the fans on hand for this year's event. The Jesse Owens Classic has been the stage for a number of Olympians, including: Roger Kingdom, Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses, John Drummond, Michelle Finn, Allen Johnson, Dwight Stones, Judi Brown, Louise Ritter and Calvin Smith and former Buckeyes Diane Dixon, Joe Greene, Stephanie Hightower, Mark Crogan and Robert Gary.

Second year Ohio State University Men's Track and Field head coach, Robert Gary, serves as meet director. He hopes that his hard work this year will help bring life back into the Classic which for years has lost much of the luster it had in the days that Ron Altholf put his heart and sole in making it a top notch track and field meet.
