November 2005- RUNOHIO E-NEWSLETTER
Matt McGowan
November 2005
RunOhio

The fall was been fairly mild so far and many athletes ran their best time of the season in October. Cross-country is wrapping up with the OHSAA State Championships on Saturday, November 5th at Scioto Downs. If you have never attended these championships you owe it to yourself to see these young athletes test their abilities against the best in Ohio. For more information on this year's Championships and results from last year check out: http://www.runohio.com/news/10-31- 05Ohio_state-xc.html

If you are looking for another great Championship check out the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on November 19th hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Methodist Theological School and Dornoch Golf Club. This course was also the site for last month's All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships. As the high school coach of a number of women who are now running on their college teams, I enjoyed watching these championships. Perhaps the best race of the day was former Bishop Watterson athlete Nicole Gliem's second place finish as she led her Ohio State University team. I have watched Nicole develop from her first year of cross country running her sophomore year in high school to her outstanding run at the All Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships. Congratulations and good luck to everyone who is running their cross-country championships this month. Check out the pictures from the All Ohio Championships:

Many runners will be toeing the starting line for a Thanksgiving Day race as this day has become one of the more popular days for a road race. After the race many athletes will join family and friends to celebrate this special day. Then, a number of runners will put away their racing shoes and not get them back out until the spring. Hopefully, the winter will not be too bad and you can keep up your winter training and if the weather isn't too bad perhaps you can enjoy a winter race or two.
