Our hearts go out to those in the hurricane-wracked states of
Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. We pray for those
who have lost their lives in the storm, their families and
those suffering the devastation of their homes, businesses and
communities.
Hopefully, we all can do something to help those who are in
need. Inside Texas Running last week was asking race directors
to send left over shirts for the victims who are being housed
in Houston - http://www.insidetexasrunning.com/news/clothingdrive2005.ht

devastated areas - http://www.redcross.org If
we all give a little we can make a difference.
The IAAF World Track & Field Championships were held last
month in Helsinki, Finland. Nearly 40,000 spectators watched
the outstanding performances of each session of the nine-day
event. However, many did not know they were being held as no
major television network station or ESPN covered this year's
event. Many subscribed to the World Championship Sports Network
(WCSN) Internet coverage for only $4.95. Local newspapers ran a
photo and an article everyday, but US track fans were
disappointed with the television coverage.
Elyria's nineteen year old, Tianna Madison, won the long
jump at the World Championships. In high school she had nine
career state championships, including seven in individual
events and became only the third athlete in Ohio history to win
four events at a state championship meet two years in a row, in
2002 and 2003 Madison joined former Zanesville Rosecrans star
Susan Nash (1983-84) and Cleveland East Tech/U.S. Olympic
legend Jesse Owens (1932-33) on that list. She now is part of
the University of Tennessee track program.
