August RUNOHIO E-Newsletter Ohio and the Midwest have had its
fair share of hot and humid days this summer. I hope you have
been able to get in some good training despite the hot weather.
Please remember to drink plenty of water before and after your
training runs. Check out Julie Bishop's article - Hydrating in
the Summer Heat -http://www.runohio.com/features/07-21-
05Medical.html
Also, if you get to a road race and the weather is hot and
humid, take the race a little easier so you can enjoy the fall
racing season. Don't try to run a personal best if the weather
is not conducive. I am sure in a month or two you can go for
that personal best.
Here is another article on training in the heat: http://www.runohio.com/features/08-04August-
heat.html
Last month my brother, Jeff, and I attended the summer meeting
of The Running Network in Utica, New York. The Running Network
represents thirty-three regional running publications and
secures national advertising for the publications. The Running
Network also produces a semi-annual shoe review and the fall
review will be in the September issue. Besides our business
meetings we also attended The National Distance Running Hall of
Fame induction. Larry Eder, President of The Running Network,
wrote an article on Distance Running Hall of Fame Inducts Class
of 2005. Read it at: http://www.runohio.com/features/08-04August-
heat.html
Congratulations to Ohioan Bob Schul who was one of the
inductees. Read RUNOHIO's Book Review - Bob Schul, "In the Long
Run" http://www.runohio.com/news/07-28-04Book-review-

Benoit and Czechoslovakia's Emil Zatopek. I hope you enjoy this
column. http://http://www.runohio.com/news/07-28-05-running-

This issue is coming out a week later than I had planned as my
98-year-old grandfather recently passed away.
I hope you have a good month of running and hopefully the cool
air of fall is just around the corner.
