The track season was an exciting one. I coach high school
track. One of my athletes ran in the OHSAA State Track & Field
Championships, which I also covered for RUNOHIO. A number of
outstanding performances were recorded. In my opinion two of
the top performances of the day were first, Bridget Franek who
set a new Division I 1600 meter record with her outstanding run
of 4:45.68. Then forty-five minutes later she came back and
finished second in the 800 meters. Also, Jeff See won both the
1600 meter and 800 meter titles. http://www.runo

The second weekend of June, I also covered the Mid-West Meet
of Champions. This meet features a number of the top high
school seniors from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. In this meet I
witnessed a girl run under 2:08 in the 800 meters and a boy
break nine minutes for the 3200 meters. http://www.runohio.com/news/16-13-

A big congratulation goes to Middletown's and Ohio State
University bound, Jeff See who won the mile at the Nike Track
Nationals with a remarkable 4:04.83.

Last weekend the US Outdoor Track & Field Championships were
held and a number of Ohio athletes participated. Former
Willoughby South High School and University of Michigan
standout, Katie McGregor won the 10,000 championships in
31:33.82. &It was a fun race. I had a good time out there.
It was a great field. It was hard to know when to take it and
when not to take it. Things are coming together for me. I felt
in good shape. Having the 'A' standard that helped me tonight.
I didn't have any pressure in the race.&
McGregor will be running in the World Championships in
Helsinki later this summer.
Rob Myers finished third in the 1500 meters with a 3:42.27.
He needs to get the "A" standard of 3:36.20 to go to the World
Championships.
A pair of Ohioans finished fourth in the 3000 meter steeple
chase, Brian Olinger ran 8:28.44 for fourth. American Record
holder Briana Shook was fourth in 9:45.91.
Also, Tina Peters finished third in the 10,000 meters race
walk.

The July print RUNOHIO should be in your favorite running
store in a few days. Here is some of what you will find in the
July RUNOHIO. A new series of articles start as I spotlight
athletes who have had a major impact on the sport of running.
The series is called Running 101 and I hope you enjoy it. A
number of other articles of interest are in this issue: Julie
Bishop's article Hydrating in the Summer Heat, Nancy Clark's
Sports Nutrition News article Elaine Binkley's spotlights Paula
Ratcliff's book Paula: My Story so Far, Richard Ferguson's
article Bouncing Back and Cregg Weinmann's Review of Socks.
I plan to attend a number of road races this month. Plus, my
brother, Jeff, and I will be going to a meeting for The Running
Network in July. The Running Network is a group of twenty-nine
regional running publications. The group works on getting
national advertising and providing the best local and national
running news. The printed publication is the main focus with a
growing emphasis on the web. On the RUNOHIO web site I update
the race results and have someone who helps me post articles
and pictures on the site. For the past three months RUNOHIO has
averaged over 110,000 individuals going to the RUNOHIO web
site. The RUNOHIO site has been one of the top five visited
Running Network sites. Also, for each the past three months
over 2.5 million runners have visited The Running Network
national site and the various regional running publication
sites.
