Mid-East Cross Country Championships

Kettering, OH, 11-19-11 - The Mid-East Cross Country Championships presents the best high school men & women senior runners from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and other area states. The event provides an excellent regional forum that supports the athlete and college coaches looking for new talent. It is sponsored by the members of the Greater Dayton Track and Cross Country Officials Association and the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches. The race has been held annually since 1987.

Illinois’s Patrick Niyork won the Boys race on the muddy 5,000 meter course in 15:49. Ohio’s Adrian Ross (15:33) nipped two Michigan runners Nicholsa Soter and Evan Chiplock by less than a second to take home runner up honors. Ohio’s Ryan Polman (15:54) finished fifth.

Ohio with five runners in the top eight ran away with the boy’s crown with 28 points. Michigan finished second with 48 points while Indiana was third with 63 points. Illinois was fourth with 120 points.

Illinois’ Ariel Michalek (18:37) ran away with the girls’ gold.   Michigan’s Rachele Schulist (18:54) took home runner up honors while Ohio’s Kayla Scott (18:59) took home the bronze. Indiana’s Renee Wellman (19:04) and Illinois’ Kayla Spencer (19:12) finished next.

Indiana and Illinois each scored 44 points with Indiana taking home the overall trophy with their sixth place finisher. Michigan was third with 56 points while Ohio was fourth with 70 points.
