The championship race was an invitation-only event that featured 30 of the top U.S. women and was held in conjunction with the Road Runner Akron Marathon.

2008-Womens-8km-Champions-logo.gif(Akron September 27) Washington, D.C.’s Birthanu Wukaw Zeieke, Bryon Center, Michigan Joshua Koros and Arlington, Virginia’s Michael Wardian battle most of the race before Zeleke pulled away for the $2,000 overall award with his 2:23:13. Koros (2:26:29) held off Wardian (2:26:52) for runner up honors and $1,000.
