Midwest - Foot Locker Cross Country Championships

Omaha, Nebraska's freshman Emily Sisson took the girls through the first mile in 5:35. Arvada, Colorado's sophomore Kaitlyn Vanatta joined Sisson in the lead as they hit the two-mile mark in 11:00. Sisson would take off sprinting with one hundred meters to go to win in 17:13 while Vanatta (17:16) would finish second. University Heights, Ohio's junior Emily Infeld (17:43) took home the bronze in this event hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside

Illinois' pre-race favorite Evan Jager and Navarre, Ohio's Aaron Melhorn would lead the boys at the mile mark as they passed in 4:50. Jager would lead at the 2 mile mark in 9:40, but as many know it is the final mile which counts. Minneapolis, Minnesota's Hassan Mead would take the lead with just over 800 meters to go to post the win with his 15:05 clocking. Thornton, Colorado's Anguel Tolev, Winona, Minnesota's Elliot Heath, Chardon, Ohio's Emil Heineking would all cross the finish line in 15:10. Melhorn would finish one place out of qualifying for the Championships as he placed eleventh in 15:22 and Jager faded to fifteen in 15:32.

Mantua's Cassandra Schenck (18:14) who finished second to Infeld in the OHSAA Division II Cross Country State Championships placed fourteenth. Barnesville's Stephanie Morgan (18:37), Hamilton's Amanda Burger (19:02) and North Canton's Emily Pritt (19:10) would round out the top five Ohio girl finishers.

Westlake's Brian Gallagher (15:36), Cincinnati's Taylor Williams (15:40) and Bowling Green's Joe Miller (15:46) rounded out the top five finishers for the Ohio boys.

The top ten finishers qualify for the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships, which will feature forty boys and forty girls in this unofficial U.S. high school championship.
