12th Annual Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon
Press Release
August 2007

Registration on a Record Pace

The registration for 2007 Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon is on a record pace by being 80% ahead of last year. Race director Joel Sauer said, "It is great to see the running community as well as the Lawrence community embrace the event as they have. Not only do we have a strong local participant base but we have participants coming from 21 states and 4 different countries to participate in the Indianapolis Marathon events."

Now through September 12th, Early Bird registration is in effect with the Full Marathon at $45 and the Half Marathon at $35. The event offers something for everyone with the Marathon, Half-Marathon, 4 person Marathon Relay, 5K and Kids Marathon along the scenic Lawton Loop on the historic Fort Harrison grounds. Register now online at www.indianapolismara thon.com.

The Marathon Relay gives participants a unique way to run a marathon without running 26.2 individually. The runners will split the Marathon roughly into fourths. The first runner will go 5.75 miles, the second 6.75, the third 6.55, and the fourth runner will finish out the final 7.15 miles of the Marathon.

Most importantly, added Sauer, "This event truly gives back to the community." The Indianapolis Marathon has donated over $150,000 to charities with its main emphasis on K.I.D.S. Inc. www.kidsincindiana.com . K.I.D.S. Inc. is a wonderful organization that works with youth on the near-South side of downtown. "When I started the event 12 years ago, in addition to putting on a top-rate event, I felt there needed to be a higher cause to tie into the event. I knew of the great work this and other local organizations were doing and decided to tie our success into helping this and other community organizations." The Indianapolis Marathon has also partnered with other charities including the Leukemia Society Team in Training Program and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation's Team MS.Said Sauer, "Over the past two years we have been the host of the TEAM MS marathon/half marathon training program. Through this partnership,an additional $100,000 has been raised for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation!"
