With another month or so of hot weather running many
athletes are looking forward to a fall with cooler
temperatures. Don't forget to drink plenty of water before
and after your runs. This is especially important during the
hot and humid days of August. There are a number of excellent
races to test your fitness in the next few months. However,
if on race day it is hot and humid take it a little easier and
keep your PR efforts for a cooler day.
Many runners will start official cross-country practice
this month. Good luck with your training and remember to start
slow and run cautiously during the hot and humid days.
If you are looking for something a little different to do,
try one of the many summer cross-country runs listed in the
RUNOHIO Race Calendar.
The RUNOHIO Race Calendar is the most complete listing of
races in Ohio and the surrounding States. Race directors don't
forget to send me your race information as soon as you have it
available. Also, if you want to list your race on the
searchable RUNOHIO Race Calendar, which appear on the RUNOHIO
and on The Running Network web sites go to: http://www.rn
calendar.com/creator/login.asp You will have to input the
information and I check the site every other day to activate
the race information.
Mark your calendar for the 2007 USATF National Club Cross
Country Championships and USA Open & Masters Men's 10 km and
Open & Masters Women's 6 km Championships. The races will be
held on December 8th at the Voice of America Park in West
Chester, Ohio. Two of the co owners of the Columbus Running
Company are serving as the race directors, Eric Furth is the
meet director and Jim Jurcevich is the elite athlete
coordinator. If you belong to a USATF club or have a USATF
card start getting ready for this Championships.
After attending the USATF Championships in Indianapolis I
worked to get race pictures and the finishing touches for the
July RUNOHIO. The paper was printed on June 26th and mailed
June 28th. When I hadn't received the copy I mail to myself
by July 6th I became concerned. It wasn't a slow mail system.
For the first fourteen year of printing RUNOHIO, I would put
the labels on the paper myself and mail it out the next day.
Five years ago I decided to let the printer mail out the
issues. The printer outsources the printing of the labels and
labels were picked up, put on the issue and mailed. The only
problem was that the labels put on the RUNOHIO were for a
group of Mid Atlantic restaurants received the July RUNOHIO.
I guess their labels are within a few labels of the RUNOHIO
list and no one realized the wrong labels were put on the July
RUNOHIO. So, the July issue was printed again and mailed out
on July 9th. Anyone who owns a small business knows something
can always happen, as you are as good as your workers.
Hopefully, this issue will arrive sooner.
Elaine Binkley, who has been doing the RUNOHIO Book Reviews
for the past three years, was recently selected the Academic
All-America of the Year for the College Division in Cross
Country and Track and Field. http://www.runohio.com/archive/news/06-28-
07Binkley.html A press release from Denison University is
in this issue as well as her book review of Running with the
Legends.
Good luck to everyone training for a fall marathon,
especially all of the guys who will be running in the US
Olympic Marathon Trials in November.
Hopefully, if you do not subscribe to RUNOHIO you will take
a few minutes and sign up to get RUNOHIO mailed to you. If you
already subscribe don't forget to renew your subscription.
RUNOHIO is printed seven times a year and you can take
advantage of the Buddy for a Buck and get an extra subscription
for a friend for only $1.
The deadline for the September/October issue is August
13th.
Good luck with your training and racing.
I hope to see you at an upcoming race.
