The Nike Outdoor Nationals held at North Carolina A&T
University, was a showcase of the Nations top high school track
and field athletes. Numerous Ohio athletes made their home
state proud with outstanding performances last weekend.
Yellow Spring's senior and Penn State University bound Sam
Borchers ran an impressive 4:03.33 to win the mile. Borchers,
two weeks earlier, won the Ohio High School Athletic
Association Division III State Track Championships in the 1600
meters and established a new Division III State record in the
800 with his 1:51.54. Marietta, Georgia's Ben Hubers (4:04.98)
finished second. Delaware Hayes' senior and Ohio State
University signee, Jake Edwards finished fifth in 4:08.02.
The girls' mile was a battle of Ohio underclass women as
Cleveland Heights Beaumont's junior Emily Infeld who in
Division I set two new records at the OHSAA Track Championships
with her 4:41.37 - 1600 meters and 2:08.63 in the 800 meters
and Barnesville's sophomore Stephanie Morgan who at the OHSAA
Track Championships established a new Division III 1600 meter
record with her 4:45.21 raced each other for the first time.
Morgan took home the National scholastic mile title with her
4:46.31. Inford took home the silver in 4:47.96.
Euclid's Jessica Beard who won her fourth straight State
title
in the 400 meters with her State record of 51.63 added the Nike
Outdoor Nationals 400meter gold to her trophy case with her
52.43 clocking.
Elmore Woodmore's Emily Pendleton who became the first Ohio
girl to win a field event four years in a row at the OHSAA
State Track and Field Championships won the National discus
title with her toss of 166 feet - six inches.
Vandalia Bulter's senior Jimmie Pacifica won the shop put
with
a throw of 64 feet - eight inches.
