RUNOHIO invites you to meet 1964 Olympic Gold Medallist, Bob
Schul on Saturday, June 9th from 2pm - 4:30pm at the
Frontrunner store (1344 W. Lane Ave., Columbus, OH 43221).
Schul won the gold medal in the 5,000-meter at the Tokyo
Olympics. At one time Bob held five American and one World
record. Schul is one of only five Americans to win a Gold
Medal in a distance race in Olympic history.
Bob was going to be on hand for the June 10th 30th annual
Columbus 10K to start the race and sign posters. However,
after appearing at FrontRunner, Bob will fly to Eugene, Oregon
for the Prefontaine Classic. Meet Director Tom Jordan will
honor Bob before the World record attempt at the Prefontaine
Classic. (Bob was the last American to hold the 2-mile outdoor
world record with his 8:26.4)
On Saturday, June 9th from 2pm - 4:30pm Bob will be
available to autograph his book "In the Long Run",
which will be on sale for $15. Or he will sign the Columbus
10K race poster. A limited number of Columbus 10K posters will
be on sale for $5

30th annual Columbus 10K - June 10th
The 30th annual Columbus 10K will be held on June 10th and
will serve as both the Ohio USA Track & Field State 10K
Championships and the method for choosing the state's
representative to the National 10K Championships in the fall
through the AADP program.
The first male and female runners at the Columbus 10K who
are US citizens, 2007 USATF members and who meet the following
time standards (men: 29:30-31:00 and women 34:00-37:45) will
be awarded sponsorship to the National 10K Championships. The
women's race is the Tufts 10K in Boston, MA on October 8th and
the men's race site is to be determined. (Athletes also need
to be between the ages of 15 and 35 years old)
The Columbus 10K is "the Oldest Road Race in Columbus" as
it started as the Citizen Journal 10K - 30 years ago. The race
starts at the State House at 9:00 a.m., loops around downtown,
thru historic German Village runs on the bike trail along the
Scioto River, by the Columbus Arts Festival, the Nationwide
Arena and finishes in front of City Hall.
Awards: U.S. Saving Bonds* awarded to - Top 5 Men and top 5
Women - 1st: $500, 2nd: $250, 3rd: $150, 4th: $75, 5th: $50,
Top 3 Men and top 3 Women Masters - 1st: $100, 2nd: $50, 3rd:
$25, Top Grand Masters - 1st: $50. Plus, Awards to the top 25%
in each age group will win awards, including a year
subscription to RUNOHIO to overall age group winners. Age
Groups - Men and Women: 14 and under, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-
34, 35-39, 40- 44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64/ women-65 and
over, men 65-69, 70 and over. (* or current cash value).
The Columbus 10K is also part of the RUNOHIO Grand Prix.

The race is held the same weekend as the Columbus Arts
Festival, which is held one block from the finish line along
the banks of the Scioto River.
